The first thing the allotment books will tell you is that deciding where to put a few permanent features on the plot will help give you structure.
We were lucky to inherit a bit of good structure on our plot given by the soft fruit, a slab path and some visible old beds. We’re sticking with it for the time being as changing would be another lot of decisions to make and be extra work when we really need to be getting on with getting plants in!
One new addition I’ve had to insist on though is a greenhouse. It’ll be given over almost completely to tomatoes – I love the smell of tomatoes in a greenhouse, it brings back really strong by memories of helping my gran pick the ones in her greenhouse when I was little.
After a lot of indecision we’ve gone with the plastic variety at the moment. There’s some existing brickwork hard standing (looks like the site of a previous greenhouse to me) that we’ve put it up over but we think we’ll probably move it the future so we went with temporary.
Beautifully modelled by Tom – I can’t wait to get the tomatoes in there!
