Rabbits

Another not great start today – Arrived at the allotment to see a small rabbit next to my newly planted borlotti beans.  It scarpered practically before I’d even seen it but it’s left its mark.

I ran to the beans and it’s completely stripped the new ones to the stems.  After a quick look around it’s also stripped one of my dwarf bean plants and a cavolo nero – I’m not a happy bunny!

Berlotti rabbit damage
Young Berlotti bean plants stripped by floppy eared fiend!

The rabbit seems to have focused it’s attention on the newest batch of seedlings I planted out which seems to be standard as apparently they have a discerning nose for the youngest,  sweetest plants.

Having spoken to nearby plotholders rabbits seem to be a perennial here (hence the large number of physical barriers around on other plots!).  It sounds like the only surefire way to protect young plants is a physical barrier like chicken wire so we’ll have to devise a plan… and hope we don’t get to many more rabbit raids before we put something in….
